Go and Trek (USB-C handhelds)
The radio will not charge
- Try the supplied USB-C cable and power adapter in a wall socket. Some low-power USB ports and cheap cables cannot deliver enough current.
- Check the USB-C port for dirt, lint or moisture. On the Trek, make sure the port cover is fully open and the port is dry before plugging in.
- Leave a fully flat radio on charge for 15 minutes before expecting the screen to light; a deeply discharged battery charges silently at first.
- Try a different cable and adapter. If a known-good set still does nothing, email us.
The radio turns itself off
- A low battery warning (voice reminder on the Trek) means charge it now.
- If it turns off with charge remaining, hold Exit/Power to restart. If it keeps happening, note how often and email us.
- Cold weather shortens battery life. Keep a spare radio or a power bank on long cold days.
Commander (vehicle or fixed)
The Commander has no battery, so power problems are always supply problems.
- Check the supply is 10 to 24 V DC and can deliver at least 2 A. A weak supply makes the radio reset, show a dim screen or drop calls when you press PTT.
- Check the power cable connections at both ends and the vehicle fuse.
- If wired through the ignition, the radio will turn off with the engine. Wire to a constant supply if you want it on with the engine off.
- Try the supplied USB adapter on mains power to rule out the vehicle wiring.
